“Working with nxoCommunications has enabled us to articulate what our business really stands for, bringing structure to both our team communications and customer marketing. Through the formation of our mission, values and proposition we now have a focus to build the Longridge Timber brand and a strategy which sets out our future growth. We always knew what we wanted to achieve, but had no idea where to start; now I am confident we will achieve what we set out to do because of the strategic work we’ve done with Cheryl.”
Sue Cornthwaite, Director, Longridge Timber.
Longridge Timber opened its doors in 2006 and remains an independent family owned timber merchants. Based in Longridge and now expanded to central Preston, they pride themselves on supplying only the best quality timber at fair prices. They offer first class customer service to the building and joinery trades, property developers and ambitious DIY enthusiasts across the North West of England.
Opportunity for change
Longridge Timber have been serving the local Longridge area for over 11 years and the business had developed extremely well over that time. With their entrepreneurial spirits the directors remain ambitious and were ready to expand to supply the wider Preston and surrounding region, so it was important to be conveniently placed. Location, location, location! The ideal additional site was found on Ribbleton Lane, in the centre of Preston. Operating from two locations would bring internal communication challenges for the team as well as the necessity to ensure that the new Preston site was effectively promoted and attracting its own client base. There was a clear opportunity to market to employees and customers alike. The multiple benefits that a strategic approach towards any business decisions would bring was highlighted to the directors and they wholeheartedly embraced the opportunity to bring structure, focus and visibility to their future plans.
Impact for growth
Longridge Timber prides itself on supplying consistently high quality timber; they are reliable, responsive and fair in all their business dealings. nxoCommunications worked closely with the directors to articulate these characteristics in their marketing communications. Forming the company mission, values and customer value proposition has helped to unite employees over both sites. Communication of ‘The Longridge Timber Way’ helped everyone to understand the culture of the business and how they fit in. Customers are also crystal clear on what they can expect to experience each time they come in to contact with any member of the team. Communication has been the key to success. This was followed by the formation of a customer strategy. Longridge Timber have now professionalised their marketing and defined their messaging to properly represent who they are, forming a strong foundation for all their subsequent targeted customer communications. The most appropriate marketing channels have been identified and their customers segmented to ensure that they receive the most effective communications possible through the preferred means. Their full marketing potential is set out in front of Longridge Timber evidenced in the strategy. This has enabled them in particular to develop a digital platform with a meaningful brand identity, building their online presence to further engage with their customer base.
